Monster.com makes a major announcement regarding the executive level job market in today's Electronic Recruiting News.
Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment
According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, 224 metropolitan areas reported unemployment rates below the
U.S. average (4.1 percent, not seasonally adjusted), while 101 areas
registered higher rates during the month of August. Nineteen metropolitan
areas had rates below 2.0 percent, with nine of these located in the
Midwest, six in New England, and four in the South. Among the five areas
with jobless rates over 10.0 percent, three were in California, and two were
along the Mexican border in other States.
And the Example You Are Setting?
Over the past 10 years, employee participation in workplace charity drives has declined about 12 percent according a report from American Charities. The report found that senior management was found to be less involved and supportive, along with declining employee interest and participation, especially among younger employees, many of whom do not see the relevance or value of supporting organizations like the United Way.
The 2000 Cone/Roper Executive Study finds that companies today are supporting causes to win the race to attract and keep qualified employees. Eighty-five percent of corporations surveyed say they support causes to enhance employee loyalty, and 82 percent say they align with social issues to be a preferred employer.
A global study from Walker Information shows that only 34 percent of all employees are truly loyal to their organization. In addition, only one-third believe that their organization is highly ethical, and only 6 in 10 believe that their senior leaders are people of high personal integrity. Just half of all employees feel that their organization is interested in developing people for the long term. The study also finds that the major areas employees feel need to addressed by employers are fairness at work, care and concern for employees, and trust in the employees.
Drake Beam Morin reports that it noted certain trends while polling its senior consultants: employers are striving to resist impulse hiring, corporate requests for training to improve managers' interviewing skills have increased 124 percent, the role of human resources is spread thin and HR managers wear too many hats, the wide age range of workforce challenges employers' effort to offer unique recruitment and retention perks that please all employees, and dot.coms tap baby boomers to train Gen-Xers.
