The JobOptions/BTM Job-Listing Index
The index slipped by 3.6 percent over the week ending August 14, which marked the fourth consecutive weekly decline. August online job listings tend to be seasonally strong, however, this month's month-to-date performance has been weak and below its 52-week moving trend. On a 4-week moving average based the index declined by 4.9 percent. (Go to Latest Release. PDF file, Acrobat required.)

Weekly Unemployment Insurance Claims Report
In the week ending August 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 313,000, an increase of 14,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 299,000. The 4-week moving average was 290,000, unchanged from the previous week's revised average of 290,000.

Corestaff Services acquires staffing firms General Employment Service , which operates in the Seattle/Tacoma area, and General Employment Oregon, which operates in Portland as FlexForce Personnel Services.
Professional employer organization TeamStaff, Inc. intends to acquire HR2, a Boston-based PEO.
Recruitment solution for healthcare MiracleWorkers.com will power DocISP, an ISP for health professionals, with an interactive online career center.

Claria Corporation now offers its recruiting services to venture capital firms. Crescendo Ventures' portfolio companies will be among the first takers.
The Softbank E-Commerce Corp is planning to jointly launch an online Japanese job-hunt service for MBA graduates with London-based Global Workplace Ltd., povider of online job hunt services for business school graduates. The companies will invest $276,200 into the joint unit, called GWP Japan Corp.
Craigslist, serving San Francisco and Boston, has expanded to New York City, Washington, DC, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Chicago, and in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
