Talent Supplies
Labor shortage, labor shortage, what shall we do? The import of talent from other countries is the topic of today's Electronic Recruiting News.
The College Crowd
The JobTrak.com Index for July 2000 shows a 19.6-percent increase in total job openings, with an average starting salary of $37,488. This is down from a 50.4-year-to-year increase in March. CollegeHire interviewed more than 5,000 computer science and computer engineering students and found that more than 51 percent of the respondents said they expect to earn between $51K and $70K in their first job.
Advertising Revenues
The New York Times Company reports that advertising revenues for its Newspaper Group increased 4.9 percent for July 2000, showing a 13.3-percent year-to-date increase. Advertising revenue for: The New York Times Magazine rose 28.5 percent. Gains in help-wanted and real estate advertising offset softer automotive advertising;
The Boston Globe, increased 2.1 percent. Growth in help-wanted advertising offset softness in real estate advertising. High-tech employment was boosted by Jobapalooza, a special help-wanted section/job fair that occurred in that month; and
The Regional Newspaper Group, grew 2.8 percent, with much of the strength coming from employment advertising at its California newspapers.
