Market Future According to John Sumser,
"the Internet Job Board Market is going to resemble a complex, 30,000 headed hydra." Is this good news or bad news? Read John's latest predictions in the Electronic Recruiting News.
New Neurons Necessary
In the second edition of its Market Compensation Study, People3 (a Gartner Group company specializing in human capital) found that firms responding to staff turnover with higher pay have limited success.
It seems that the lack of career development opportunities is one of the most reported factors as to why employees leave their companies. Yet, less than 50 percent of companies have career paths and career-development processes for their IT professionals.
In a similar story, Lexis-Nexis reports on a recent survey in which employees ranked their reasons for staying in their current jobs. Higher ranks given were: 1. career growth and learning; 2. exciting and challenging work; 3. meaningful work and the opportunity to make a difference; 4. great co-workers; 5. being part of a team; 6. a good boss; 7. being recognized for a job well done; 8. having fun on the job; 9. autonomy or a sense of control over their own work; and 10. flexibility in work hours and dress code. Guess what came in at number 11 - salary and competitive benefits.
How Do They Do That
The Men's Wearhouse believes its job is to develop untapped human potential, especially among people with a troubled past. Workforce reports that they have been doing that and selling a whole lots of suits in the process.
Couldn't Pass This Up
