If
you enjoyed the material in the 2000
Executive Summary Take a look at the 1999
Executive Summary (also requires Adobe Acrobat). We appreciate
your positive feedback regarding the information in the 2000.
"But What Will You Fall Back On, Dear?" CNET
reports on tech prodigies who opt for stock options over
college.
Dot Coms In the News The
New York Times on prospective dot-com employees growing more
selective. (Registration required.)
CareerJournal
looks at new jobs being elusive for laid-off dot-commers.
Mercury
Center columnist reports on a survey that may shine some light
on dot-com compensation.
Jobs 101 Whether you are just beginning or need a
refresher course, here are two articles on using the web as a recruiting tool
and as a job-search
tool.
Second Quarter $$$ HotJobs.com reported revenues of
approximately $22.4 million for the second quarter of 2000. Resumix,
which was acquired in May, contributed approximately $2.6 million of
revenue for the quarter. The company reported a net loss of
approximately $10.5 million, or a 31-cent net loss per basic and
diluted share.
Kelly Services
announced net earnings for the second quarter of 2000 totaled
$21.8 million. Diluted earnings per share were 61 cents.
CareerBuilder second
quarter revenues were reported at $6.9 million. Net loss was $11.3
million, or 47 cents per share. CareerBuilder has agreed to be
acquired by the Tribune Company and KnightRidder.com for $8.00 per
share in cash.
Comings & Goings Did you know that in the period
1970-1999, the U.S. saw about 110 million births and 63 million
deaths and there were 425 million occasions in which Americans moved
to another county in the same State or to a different State
altogether. The August issue of Scientific
America has more on U.S. population growth statistics.
No Answer may take on a whole new meaning. The
New York Times reports on two unions going toe-to-toe with
Verizon over the use of nonunion works. The bottom line is a
threatened walkout on Sunday that could cause problems for 25
million telephone customers stretching from Maine to Virginia.
Off the Scale The Bugler incorrectly identified
Politemps.com as a new job site for the political industry. The new
site is CapitolWorks.com and is being launched by Politemps. The URL
for Capitolworks is: http://www.capitolworks.com. It requires a
password to enter.
