Note to our Loyal Readers
The staff at interbiznet would like to thank you for your patience and understanding with the recently erratic schedule of the interbiznet Bugler. An abrupt change in distribution method prevented us from maintaining the daily delivery of this publication. However, we are on track once again and apologize for any inconviences. Reliable as ever, though, are John Sumser's often irreverent, always entertaining Electronic Recruiting News articles.
Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment
In June, 199 metropolitan areas reported unemployment rates below the U.S.
average (4.2 percent, not seasonally adjusted), while 122 areas registered
higher rates, reports the Bureau of Labor
Statistics. Fourteen metropolitan areas had jobless rates below 2.0
percent, with eight of these located in the Midwest, four in New England,
and two in the South. Of the eight areas with rates above 10.0 percent, six
were in California, and two were along the Mexican border in other
States.
Personal Income and Outlays
Personal income increased $32.8 billion, or 0.4 percent, and disposable personal income increased $20.8 billion, or 0.3 percent, in June, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Personal consumption expenditures increased $32.5 billion, or 0.5 percent.
The JobOptions/BTM Lob-Listing Index
The index slipped by 1.3 percent over the week ending July 31. The early part of the month saw a burst of online job postings, but the pace slowed as the month progressed. For July, the index jumped by 20.2 percent (not seasonally adjusted), compared to June, and posted a solid 53.4-percent gain from the same month of the prior year. (Go to Latest Release. PDF file.
