A Modest Proposal
With Knight Ridder and Tribune acquiring CareerBuilder and CareerPath.com, the Newspaper Giant appears to be waking from his Online Recruiting Nap. Or is he? John Sumser takes the Lilliputians' view of recent events and swiftly places it in historical context.

New Combinations
Online computer information source CNET Networks Inc. will buy ZDNet for $1.6 billion in stock. Under the terms of the merger agreement, each share of Ziff-Davis stock will be converted into 0.3397 share of CNET Networks stock and each share of ZDNet stock will be converted into 0.593 shares of CNET Networks common stock.

Medimorphus.com, an online destination for healthcare recruiting and career management, will use iSearch database search and software technology to power its job searches.

Sessions.edu has partnered with Sallie Mae to offer its students private education loans.

Reveille
The Exec-U-Net Executive Talent Demand Index reports that the overall demand for executives increased by 38 percent during the second quarter, compared to the same time last year. The index also lists the industries and job titles in demand.

Washingtonpost.com announces a redesigned WashingtonJobs.com site, with new and improved products and services.

Guiding Principles
One author asks the question, "When an older worker is turned down for a job because he or she is not a good fit, is it age discrimination or a legitimate hiring decision?"
