Creat Opportunity
A major gathering in the San Francisco Bay Area last weekend was ignored by recruiters. Ingmars Lindbergs considers this an opportunity missed.
Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment
In May, 222 metropolitan areas reported unemployment rates below the U.S. average (3.9 percent, not seasonally adjusted), while 102 areas registered higher rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Twenty-nine metropolitan areas had rates below 2.0 percent, with 12 of these located in the Midwest, 9 in the South, and 5 in New England. Of the 8 areas with jobless rates over 10.0 percent, 6 were in California, and 2 were along the Mexican border in other States.
Retention Practices
According to the 2000 Retention Practices Survey by the Society for Human Resource Management, HR professionals are more concerned about voluntary turnover within their organizations than they were just 3 years ago. Of those surveyed, 41 percent reported that the number of voluntary resignations in their organization has risen over the past 3 years compared to the 1997 count of 35 percent.
