slipped by 1 percent over the week ending June 26. The 4-week moving average fell by a hefty 5.9 percent, which reflected considerable softness during the first week of June. For the month of June, the index declined by a whopping 22.9 percent from May, but was up 7.5 percent from its year-ago level.

Benefits of Benefit Plans
The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans surveyed a random sample of corporate members, taking an in-depth look at employer-provided educational benefit programs and to analyze differences across employer characteristics. The survey found that the two employer advantages often reported with educational benefit programs are recruiting and retaining.
If It Effects the Home, It Effects The Workplace
U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Alexis Herman stated that while women's earnings as a percent of men's earnings have risen substantially, from 62.5 percent in 1979 to 76.5 percent in 1999, an earnings gap persists. The pay gap is worse for Black and Hispanic women and their earnings have grown very little. Black and Hispanic women receive just 64 and 55 cents, respectively, to every dollar earned by white men. More women are working in occupations that pay well, but even within those occupations they still make less than men.
