1999 State Per Capita Personal Income
Wyoming, Idaho, Massachusetts, and Maine had the fastest growth in per capita personal income in the nation in 1999, according to preliminary estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. For the nation, per capita income grew 4.8 percent in 1999 to $28,518, slightly less than 4.9-percent growth in 1998. In 24 states, per capita income grew less in 1999 than in 1998. Prices paid by consumers increased 1.6 percent in 1999 after increasing 0.9 percent in 1998.
Regional and State Unemployment
Regional and State unemployment rates remained generally stable in March. All four regions posted little or no change over the month, and 40 States and the District of Columbia recorded shifts of 0.3 percentage point or less, the Bureau
of Labor Statistics reported today. The national jobless rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent. Nonfarm employment increased in 46 States.
