Today's chapter on Heroes finds John Sumser roaming the Recruiting Prairie with Tom Murray of ProRecruiter. A gunslingin' showdown between CareerPath and Monster provides atmosphere.
The Employment Situation
Employment rose in April, and the unemployment rate edged down to 3.9 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 340,000; this includes 73,000 temporary workers added to assist with the decennial census. Average hourly earnings
rose by 6 cents in April and by 3.8 percent over the year.
Men Focusing on Family First
The Radcliffe Public Policy Center released the results of a national survey that examined the attitudes toward work, life, and family across the generations. The survey showed that increasing numbers of young men want to take an active role in raising their children; most workers perceive that their loyalty toward employers is not reciprocated; and many workers are sleep deprived.
April Index
The JobTrak Index shows a 40.8-percent increase in total job openings posted in April 2000 in comparison to April 1999, with an average starting salary of $36,259.
