The Deal Guy
Don Ramer and RecruitUSA are today's addition to John Sumser's collection of Heroes of Electronic Recruiting trading cards.

Productivity and Costs
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today preliminary productivity data--as measured by output per hour of all persons--for the first quarter of 2000. The seasonally adjusted annual rates of productivity change in the first quarter were 1.8 percent in the business sector and 2.4 percent in the nonfarm business sector. Productivity growth in manufacturing in the first quarter of 2000 reflected a strong increase in output, 6.2 percent, and a slight drop in the hours of all persons, -0.6 percent.

Anti-Parent Discrimination Banned
The White House Conference on Teenagers included President Clinton signing an executive order prohibiting discrimination against parents in the Federal workplace. "A Blueprint for the Future" outlines proposals for helping parents balance their responsibilities at work with their responsibilities to the children.

I Have To Take It When?
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that State and local governments can tell their employees when to take the compensatory time off that they agreed to receive instead of overtime pay. The 6-3 decision in Christensen vs Harris County said public employers have the authority to control when such time-off credits are used if no preexisting labor agreement says otherwise.

There Go the Neighborhoods
One author reports that although tech firms have boosted San Francisco's economy, the loss of city character and diversity is on a lot of minds.

How Do You Like Your Work?
GirlGeeks.com released the results of it's first nationwide survey to find out what are women looking for in the technology job marketplace. The top four criteria: to make a good salary, the chance to learn a variety of skills on the job, to participate in decision-making, and to receive on-the-job training and education.
