Real Earnings
Real average weekly earnings decreased by 0.4 percent from February to March after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics . This was due to an increase of 0.7 percent in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers which was partially offset by a 0.4-percent increase in average hourly earnings. There was no change in average weekly hours.

The Senate Special Committee on Aging held a hearing to look at the demand for older workers, the obstacles for older workers to participate in the labor market, and changes to retirement programs that make flexible retirement easier for older workers.
