The Net Drives Demand For Top IT Talent
To be successful in cyberspace, an organization needs effective strategies, which depend on how well decisionmakers understand the new technology and whether they have the vision to take their business forward. But these competencies, especially at board level, are rare say the experts. In fact, demand for these skills is currently far outstripping the supply.
Metropolitan Area Unemployment
In February, 210 metropolitan areas recorded unemployment rates below the U.S. average (4.4 percent, not seasonally adjusted), while 114 areas registered higher rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Eleven metropolitan areas had rates below 2.0 percent, with five of these located in the Midwest and four in the South. Of the 11 areas with jobless rates over 10.0 percent, 7 were in California, and 3 were along the Mexican border in other States.

State Updates
Legislation (SB 2021) was introduced to give tax credits to qualified employers and employees of Santa Clara County, California, who use alternative work schedules to reduce near-standstill traffic during rush hours.
The California Supreme Court unanimously ruled that workers required to ride employer-owned vehicles to and from their jobs must be paid for that travel time. The decision paves the way for thousands of farm workers and others to seek back pay. More broadly, however, the decision could affect many other groups of hourly workers.
Pennsylvania has received a $500,000 Federal grant to develop individual training accounts for Pennsylvania job seekers that give workers more opportunity to choose specific training to fit their career needs.
