The Help-Wanted Advertising Index
The Conference Board reports that the index dipped one point to 88 in February. Over the past 3 months, help-wanted advertising rose in five regions and declined in four. Largest increases were in the West North Central (14 percent), West South Central (9.1 percent), Mountain (6.5 percent) and East North Central (6.2 percent) regions. Biggest declines occurred in the New England (-12.7 percent) and East South Central (-7.6 percent) regions.
New Combinations
Consejero.com, a division of ilife.com, has executed co-branding agreements with CVLatino.com, a Spanish-language recruitment information site that reports on the latest recruitment and employment trends in Latin America, and Econofinance.com, a financial community in Brazil.
Gartner Group, Inc. is investing $10 million into recruiting and retaining IT talent for its $734 million technology advisory business through an exclusive 18-month agreement with LeadersOnline.
Under a joint program, SkillsVillage.com will market Resumix's Internet recruiting software to its online community. In addition, Resumix will offer its clients direct access to SkillsVillage.com through its iResumix workflow and Customer Value Center.
Futurestep.com will be the CNBC.com Career Center exclusive partner for online executive search services.
Employment Gender Disparity
The April issue of Scientific America looks at employment gender disparity in "Women and the Professions." It also features an article on the five distinguished recipients of the 1999 National Medal of Technology.
Gearing Up
Seagate Technology, Inc. announced a $20 billion transaction that takes the world's No. 1 computer disk-drive maker private and sells its 33-percent stake in Veritas Software, Inc. back to Veritas. Simultaneously, Seagate's hard drive business will be acquired by a group of investors led by Silver Lake Partners, an investment group that includes venture capitalists Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Technology Crossover Ventures announced they have funded LogicTier, the first e-business operations sourcing company to guarantee Web site user-performance levels.
