New Combinations
Definition, Ltd. has acquired 75 percent of Interstate Management Services Corporation, a professional employment organization, which reported a profitable gross sales of $22 million for 1999. Negotiations are currently underway for Definition to acquire the remaining 25 percent.
BioView.com, a biotechnology/pharmaceutical employment site, and BioPortfolio.com, a bio-business information site, are joining forcing to establish an information sharing agreement which provides for reciprocal internet access to each other's proprietary databases.
PeopleSoft has selected Sun Microsystems and the Solaris Operating Environment as the preferred platform for the PeopleSoft eCenter, a newly launched next-generation application hosting service.
Jobs.com in conjunction with notHarvard.com, will offer free educational courses through JobsUniversity.com to increase the career resources of its users.
HireSystems introduces Joboo, the world's first eGhost. The company reports that the Joboo-hosted sites are 100-percent accurate and updated in real time.
Goodshark.com recently acquired CareerOffice.net, a campus recruitment solution for businesses and students managing job placement needs. The company name will change to Goodshark.com Campus Network.
CareerEngine has partnered with the European Internet Network (EIN) to create career search sections on three EIN sites: Inside China, Russia Today, and Central Europe Online.

College students and recent graduates have high expectations of their earning potential--52 percent of students expect to be millionaires by the time they are 40 years old, according to the results of a recent survey by JobTrak.com.
State Updates
Normal seasonal factors pushed Washington State's unemployment rate up two-tenths of a percentage point in February to 5.4 percent, according to the State's Employment Security Department.
The Face of Change
Major current trends and developments suggest accelerating change for smaller businesses in the future, according to a new study by Vanderbilt University, Owen Graduate School of Management. The study predicts that the makeup of entrepreneurship will change dramatically in the next 10-15 years as major demographic shifts create new profiles of business owners. It also foresees that new technologies and organizational structures will increase productivity and profitability, but the likelihood of chronic labor shortages must be taken into consideration.
