Gearing Up TMP Worldwide reports it has acquired Toronto-based executive search firm Illsley Bourbonnais and Florida mid-level management recruitment firm Burlington Wells Inc. and subsidiaries. These acquisitions follow TMP's recent purchase of HW Group PLC, a mid-market recruitment consultancy in the United Kingdom.
Advantage Hiring
announced a new program to provide online job boards and
employment websites with expert advice and news that is designed to help its customers make better hiring and employment decisions.
Webhire reports it has added more than 2,000 job-posting destinations to Yahoo! Recruiter and Webhire Recruiter. In addition, it is introducing an interactive job site search tool to assist recruiters in identifying those job sites best suited to their particular job openings.
Human Capital Practices Pay Off
Shareholders of companies that have superior human capital practices reaped huge returns (averaging 70 percent) in 1999, while shareholders who invested in companies with poor human capital practices lost money, according to new research by Watson Wyatt.
Internet is No Replacement for Traditional Recruiting
A survey conducted by Yankelovich Partners and commissioned by kforce.com, found that 61 percent of companies surveyed perceive the ideal Internet job recruiting site as one that first personally speaks with and qualifies applicants before forwarding their resume to the company. (Note: At press time this survey was not on the kforce website.)
Good News For Freelancers
The online revolution in the media and entertainment industries is leveling the playing field between permanent staff and freelance workers and providing more career opportunities for women in journalism, says a report on the impact of information technologies in the media and entertainment industries. The study also says that more subcontracting has led to breakdowns in traditional labor-management relationships.
