After months of hard work and an unexpected amount of delays, the 2000 ERI is being shipped to those with the foresight to have pre-ordered it. John Sumser takes the time to give a rundown of what this year's Electronic Recruiting Index has to offer, and how it is an important resource to the Online Recruiting Industry.
Congressional Action
The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously voted to change the income limits on Social Security recipients without sacrificing any retirement benefits. The Senate plans to take up a similar measure soon. President Clinton has said he would sign the legislation.
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) introduced legislation that would increase the number of H-1B visas by 45,000 this year. The Senate proposed a more expansive bill that would increase the number of visas by 80,000 per year for 3 years.
The Employment Situation: February 2000
Both the number of unemployed persons (5.8 million) and the unemployment rate (4.1 percent) were little changed in February, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Payroll employment edged up by 43,000 following a large increase in January (384,000). Average hourly earnings increased by 4 cents over the month and
by 3.6 percent over the year.
New Combinations
The new relationship with JobTrak.com will provide eQuest clients access to the college market. eQuest reports that this expands its job employment network to more than 3,000 job posting sites.
E-Cruiter.com has signed a reseller agreement with Business in Vancouver, a publication that reportedly reaches more than 55,000 Greater Vancouver area business decisionmakers each week.
CareerEngine announced a distribution partnership with The Cherenson Group, a recruitment advertising firm.
Under a new agreement, all CDI Corp Information Technology Services offices in North America will use ReviewNet's Internet-based testing software to assess candidate skills in disciplines, such as C++, and PowerBuilder, CGI Scripting, and MVS JCL.
AdStar.com will feature jobs.com in the employment category of Advertise123.com. The employment site reports that it currently provides employment listings for nearly 7,500 businesses.

Truckdrivingjob.com is a new employment site designed to help drivers and trucking companies find each other. The site also includes online applications, driver discussion boards, job searching tips, and industry-related employment articles.
Abraham-Aaron Consulting and Employees Services outsources recruiting and interviewing for small businesses without an in-house HR department.
