From The Bureau of Labor Statistics: January 2000
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for All Urban Consumers increased 0.2 percent in January, before seasonal adjustment, to a level of 168.7 For the 12-month period ended in January, the CPI-U increased 2.7 percent. The CPI for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers also rose 0.2 percent in January, prior to seasonal adjustment. The January level of 165.5 was 2.8 percent higher than the index in January 1999.
Real Average Weekly Earnings grew by 0.6 percent from December to January after seasonal adjustment. This growth was due to a 0.4-percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.3-percent rise in average weekly hours. These gains were partially offset by a 0.2-percent increase in the CPI.
Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
In the week ending February 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 283,000, a decrease of 20,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 303,000. The 4-week moving average was 281,500, an increase of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average of 276,750.

The National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Consulting Engineers Council have formed an alliance with Virtual Education Corporation to develop and deliver Internet-based educational programs for engineers.
iVillage.com's The Women's Network and GirlGeeks announced a co-branded content site on iVillage.com, for which GirlGeeks will provide streaming media and live events and other resources.
