The High Tech and New Media
Club, a student organization at Harvard Business School, and Web development and Internet marketing firm Hanrick
Associates will be joining forces in a study of best practices in Internet-based recruiting. This annual survey of business school students and their reactions to corporate recruiting Websites will include focus-group research, a quantitative survey, and benchmarking of competitive practices.
The Digital Divide
According to a national survey, most workers are optimistic about impact of information technology on the economy and their work lives. But those attitudes were in striking contrast to the anxiety expressed by the one-fifth of American workers who have no access to computers at home or at work. Researchers dubbed them the "digital exiles."
The Debate Begins
The recently released Study of the Social Consequences of the Internet by The Stanford Institute for the Quantitative Study of Society has many people talking. A key finding is that the more people use the Internet, the less time they spend with real human beings. The author recommends that more study is needed on the social effects of the use of the technology. The Mercury News and The Washington Post, to name a few, have their versions on the release. Maybe more revealing questions to ask are: What is the function of the behavior? What drives this choice? How is the person using this technology to manage relationship issues, such as closeness, distance, conflict, and anxiety?
