On The Table
President Clinton is seeking $27 million to close the earnings gap between men and women and beef up enforcement of equal-pay laws; $10 million of which for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to train employers and staff inspectors about equal pay laws and $17 million for The Department of Labor to train women for jobs where they have been underrepresented, particularly in the high-technology sector. Additionally, Clinton wants Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would strengthen laws prohibiting wage discrimination.
Who Is Saving Whom?
The February issue of Consumer Reports Magazine reports that the workers compensation system, which is supposed to provide a lifeline for people injured on the job, instead offers dramatically inadequate coverage to some workers, generating profits for insurers and savings for employers mainly at the expense of injured workers.

The dollar opened slightly higher from Friday's close. The G-7 meting yielded few changes of significance in the wording of the communiqué. The dollar drifted higher in early morning and encountered stop loss buy orders which propelled it through the 105.50 level.
