New Year Makeovers
jobs.com debuts its new website, featuring the "teachings" of author Tom Peters. The company reports that it will issue the next generation of its Resumail software and begin a new series of live interactive career fairs, which are webcast events using audio- and video-streaming technology.
HotJobs.com announced the latest version of its flagship job board, HotJobs.com 1.3, "officially formalizing the channel strategy … will introduce the next-generation architecture … lays the groundwork for a build-out of original content ..." If you cannot make heads or tails out of that, we feel you are not alone.
Aerospace career site SpaceJobs.com expands into a full-web portal experience. Delivering job openings to prospective employees, it has upgraded its website to include aerojobs.com and aerospacejobs.com.
Yahoo! Resumes, powered by Webhire, now provides corporate recruiters with access to online candidates. It also includes a daily column from careers.wsj.com.
Fast Search & Transfer announced a new version of its popular FAST Search. The company reports over 300 million web documents in its new catalog.
Regional and State Employment and Unemployment
The Bureau of Labor
Statistics reported that regional and State unemployment rates remained stable in December 1999. All four regions posted little or no change over the month, and 45 States and the District of Columbia recorded shifts of 0.3 percentage point or less. The national jobless rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent.
Retention Strategies: The Other Family Members

According to officials, the CIA has made recruitment and retention top priorities, jazzed up its website, and recently created a Silicon Valley venture capital company.

According to a recent Canadian study by Infocheck, a Toronto-based reference-checking firm, 33 percent of applicants across the country have lied on their resumes or had past performance issues. That figure presents a 9-percent increase over 1998's study.
